The History of Women in the Role of Mother on Planet Earth
Part 2: Adam and Eve
by Tijana Ristic
The Biblical story of Adam and Eve is familiar to most people in the Western world. It tells of the pristine conditions in the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve walked and talked with God. They were innocent and knew no sin. They were free to do as they wished and eat of every tree but one—the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God had told them that if they ate the fruit of that tree they would surely die.
Then entered the Serpent and tempted Eve saying that if she ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil she shall not surely die, that she and Adam shall be as gods. With this one word—surely—he inserted doubt into Eve's mind, she began to doubt that God—which we can know through the Holy Spirit was not God in the highest sense but a representative of God, a spiritual teacher—was telling her the truth.
What was this tree of the knowledge of good and evil? It was the consciousness of duality—the tree of the knowledge of relative good and evil. It is this consciousness that leads to spiritual blindness, for when one is immersed in this consciousness one cannot perceive the absolute truth of God but is confused by the many relative "truths" that exist within this consciousness. Thus we can see in the world and in ourselves how time and time again these relative "truths" have obscured the single eyed vision which Jesus talks of
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. (Matt 6:22-23)
...Neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. (Matt 11:27)
If we ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand the deeper meaning of the above statements we can clearly see what Jesus is talking about is that we need to rise above the dualistic consciousness into the single eyed vision of Christ. When thine eye be single—when you no longer entertain duality in your mind—thy whole body shall be full of light. When you have the vision of Christ you can perceive the absolute truth of the Father, which can only be perceived by the Son, the Christ mind. Duality cannot perceive unity, it simply has no capacity to understand the concept of unity, of oneness. Therefore if thine eye be evil—if your vision is clouded by duality—thy whole body shall be full of darkness, meaning that your existence will be mired by the dualistic "truths"—you are truly in the outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth (Mt 25:30).
What is duality? It is the sense of separation from God. That God is up there somewhere in the sky—or in heaven or whatever you want to call it—and that you are down here separated from God by an impenetrable barrier. In reality all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:3). Therefore you also were made by him and you were made in his image and likeness, meaning that he endowed you with a spark of his Being. You are like the a wave and God is like the ocean—can a wave be separated from the ocean?
Thus you can never be separated from God in reality, because even as Jesus said "The Kingdom of God is within you!" (Luke 17:21). If it's within you how can you ever be separated from it? Any sense of separation exists only in your mind. It is merely an illusion, a belief that you have taken upon yourself—a belief that springs from the consciousness of duality. And so it can only be overcome in your mind, which is why Jesus said not to go out looking for it here or there outside of yourself, the kingdom cannot be found by being a member of the "right" church, doing rote rituals, or trying to please God in outer ways. The kingdom can only be found by going within, by putting on the wedding garment (Mt 22:11) and becoming the bride of Christ.
So when Eve partook of that consciousness she eventually lost contact with her spiritual teacher and became lost in the illusions of duality, unable to perceive the absolute truth of God. In reality Adam and Eve were not cast out of the Garden by an angry God, they simply were lost behind that veil of duality, of illusion (the veil of maya as it is called in Eastern traditions), and could no longer perceive the Garden. This was not a punishment of an angry God, but a result of their own choices, they chose to disobey God and thus they suffered the consequences of their choices. God didn't want them to suffer, but he respected their free will choice which was to enroll themselves in the school of hard knocks.
In Genesis their fall is described as one momentous event, however if we again apply to the Holy Spirit and ask for a greater understanding we will come to understand that this was not so. Their fall was gradual—a series of small, almost imperceptible, steps which took Adam and Eve further and further into the forest of dualistic illusions until they could no longer see the way out. It was so gradual that they didn't realize what was happening until they were already in too deep. They did however experience a moment of truth when they had the full realization of what had happened. And even then they had the choice to ask God, or rather their spiritual teacher, to help them get out of this forest and back onto the strait and narrow path but instead of doing so they decided to hide from God, as it states in Genesis:
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. (Gen 3:8)
So you see the Bible creation story is not a story meant to be taken literally. It was given to a people at a certain time with a certain level of consciousness. Their consciousness was mythic and thus they did not take the story literally either, it simply served as a parable of what happened to many people on Earth. Thus Adam and Eve are the archetypes of what happened to every soul on Earth. There were not just two beings that fell into the duality consciousness, there were many such beings. Which would explain where Cain and Seth's wives came from if Adam and Eve had only sons.
Another part of the story that has been misunderstood is that women are to blame for the fall because Eve was the one who initially ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and then she led Adam astray. In reality Eve is a symbol of the feminine part of every being. The masculine part of every being remains in the spiritual realm (or heaven) while the feminine aspect goes forth into the material universe using its free will to express its being in that realm.
Thus every person incarnating in this world is the feminine aspect of their masculine self which resides in heaven. So as stated above, Eve is a symbol for the feminine part of every being. And it was the feminine part of every being that fell into duality. Eve was not a wayward woman, Eve is a symbol for all beings incarnating in this material universe that fell into the duality consciousness.
But the misunderstanding of this Biblical story has led to the large scale condemnation of women as women were, and to a large extent still are, blamed for the fall. Most people do not recognize this in their conscious awareness—rather they harbor these beliefs in their subconscious, which shapes their everyday thoughts, feelings and actions without them consciously understanding why they think the way they think, or feel the way they feel.
Of course this blaming and condemnation of women is reinforced by the fallen beings, as discussed in the previous section on Lemuria. They have waged war with woman and her seed (Rev 12:17) and they will do anything to keep woman down. For you see if women were to rise to their rightful place and fulfill their divine purpose, and the Spirit of Mother was restored on Earth, then these beings would have no more opportunity of staying on this planet and would have to go elsewhere. And these beings—that John the Revelator collectively calls the dragon—know this only too well, which is precisely why they will fight to the death to stop women from coming into their own.
Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. (Rev 12:12)
So as a result of this the status of women in society has generally been as subservient to men—women have been regarded as second class citizens in most cultures, which has prevented them from accepting their divine inheritance and fulfilling their reason for being:
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (Gen 1:27-28)
And as if this wasn't enough, to make matters worse there are two creation stories in Genesis, the above one which clearly states that men and women were created at the same time, equal and in the image and likeness of God—that is that they were created as spiritual beings. But then in Genesis 3 there is a completely different story:
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.(Gen 3:7)
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him... And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. (Gen 3:18-23)
So in this story man is not created as a spiritual being but is made out of the dust of the ground, which is another way of saying that he was not created as a spiritual being but as a physical being. And woman is created as an afterthought, as a helpmate for man. These two stories seem so completely contradictory that one can't help but think that something fishy is going on. Why would God give us two completely contradictory accounts of our creation? Could it be that one of these was actually inserted later by people who had an agenda? The Holy Spirit has revealed that this was indeed the case and that the second creation story is not the real thing. Unfortunately it seems to have stuck with a lot of people believing that Eve was made from Adam's rib to be his servant.
So this putting down of woman and through her the Spirit of Mother has been taken to the extreme in some cultures such as in the Middle East, China and in some regions of India. Although those are extreme examples, there is hardly a culture on Earth that has not been affected by this putting down of woman. Even in the most so-called advanced Western cultures women still earn less than men for doing the same job, in politics men still very much dominate, and the mainstream media portrays women as being valuable only while they have their looks—it is rare to see a mature woman take center stage in films or television.
And so it is high time that women rise up and take our rightful places in society. It is high time that we stop blaming ourselves for the fall of humanity. It is high time that men stop blaming women and recognize that it was the feminine being within themselves that fell. Thus each of us is responsible for our own descent into duality and each of us must climb back up. No one else can do it for us, though others can help us—just like a teacher can teach the student but can't learn the lesson for the student, the student must do the work and learn the lesson.
Just picture yourself as the Little Engine That Could1 in the old children's story which is imbued with the victory consciousness. The Victory is yours to achieve, but to do that you must decide that you will have no more of the anti-victory consciousness—no more of "I can't" or "it's too hard" or "I give up."

- 1 The Little Engine That Could, also known as The Pony Engine, is a children's story attributed to Mary C. Jacobs. The book is used to teach children the value of optimism. The story reads:
A little railroad engine was employed about a station yard for such work as it was built for, pulling a few cars on and off the switches. One morning it was waiting for the next call when a long train of freight-cars asked a large engine in the roundhouse to take it over the hill "I can't; that is too much a pull for me," said the great engine built for hard work. Then the train asked another engine, and another, only to hear excuses and be refused. At last in desperation the train asked the little switch engine to draw it up the grade and down on the other side. "I think I can," puffed the little locomotive, and put itself in front of the great heavy train. As it went on the little engine kept bravely puffing faster and faster, "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can."
Then as it near the top of the grade, that had so discouraged the larger engines, it went more slowly, but still kept saying, "I--think--I--can, I--think--I--can." It reached the top by dint of brave effort and then went on down the grade, congratulating itself, "I thought I could, I thought I could."
To think of hard things and say, "I can't" is sure to mean "Nothing done." To refuse to be daunted and insist on saying, "I think I can," is to make sure of being able to say triumphantly by and by, "I thought I could, I thought I could."
